The investigation is continuing into the fatal assault of Ryan Gibbons

Man arrested on suspicion of murder of Ryan Gibbons released without charge

Ryan Gibbons, 20s, was fatally assaulted in Kildare town on 26 October.

A MAN AGED in his late teens arrested on suspicion of murder following the fatal assault of Ryan Gibbons in Kildare town last month has been released without charge.

Gardaí arrested the man yesterday morning for questioning and in an update this morning they confirmed he had been released.

The man (aged in his late teens) had been detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda Station in the Kildare area.

Investigations are ongoing in the case, a Garda spokesperson said in the fresh statement.

Ryan, who was in his 20s, was found unresponsive on McGee Terrace at around 3:15am on 26 October.

He was taken to Naas General Hospital with serious head injuries but later passed away.

Following a post-mortem examination – the results of which will not be released for operational reasons – gardaí have now commenced a murder investigation.

It’s understood Gibbons had been out socialising with a group of men earlier that night, and that an incident took place close to the local garda station at McGee Terrace.
