Second arrest over Portmarnock robbery

Gardaí in Coolock have arrested a second man this morning in connection with a robbery on 16 November.

A SECOND PERSON has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery in Portmarnock.

Gardaí in Coolock arrested a second man, aged 19, this morning in connection with the armed robbery that occurred at 5.30pm on 16 November, 2012 at a financial institution in Portmarnock.

The man was arrested in north Dublin and is currently detained under Section 30, Offences Against the State Act, 1939 at Coolock Garda Station.

Gardaí said that two males entered the financial institution in Portmarnock armed with a firearm and threatened staff before leaving with an amount of cash.

On leaving the premises the men were confronted by a garda on mountain bike patrol in the area. A number of shots were fired before the men hijacked a car and fled the scene. The garda was uninjured.

During a follow up search a short time later in the Belmayne area, gardaí recovered a car along with a quantity of cash and a handgun and arrested a male aged in his 20s. The first man arrested in relation to this incident remains in custody.
