Seven out of ten Irish employees satisfied at work - survey

Employee survey by Peninsula Ireland finds that the number of people who are happy with their work has risen by almost 50 per cent since last year.

ALMOST THREE in four Irish workers are satisfied with their work, according to a recent survey.

The Peninsula Ireland survey of 1,489 employees found that the number who are satisfied at work has risen from 53 per cent last year to 73 per cent in 2011.

Over three-quarters of those who participated in the survey said they feel their job is secure – up from below half of respondents last year.

The survey found that 62 per cent of respondents would welcome greater responsibility in their role.

Peninsula’s managing director Alan Price said the results could suggest that people are just happy to be working, given the current climate: “Happiness is alive and well in the workplace, it seems employees are satisfied with their jobs and many people realise that during these difficult economic times they are fortunate to actually have a job to be in.”

Price said that a feeling of job security is hugely important for employees’ satisfaction levels, but that employers should also give credit where its due and recognise the effort being made by their employees.
