A MAN HAS been shot dead in the Lucan area of west Dublin.

The man’s body was discovered this evening at about 8pm in Griffeen Valley Park.

It’s understood that the man was Mark Desmond, a well-known criminal who was previously charged over the murder of two men in an incident that became known as the ‘Canal Murders’.

Desmond was aged in his 30s and has been known to gardaí since his teens.

Emergency services are at the scene and gardaí have appealed for witnesses.
