SIX COUNTIES IN the west are due to come under Status Yellow warning for rain later.
From 6pm this evening until 6pm on Thursday, counties Clare, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo will come under the Status Yellow warning.
Met Éireann is forecasting significant rainfall accumulations from heavy showers and longer spells of rain and isolated thunderstorms are also possible.
Potential impacts include localised flooding, poor visibility, and difficult travelling conditions.
Meanwhile, this afternoon will bring sunshine and showers across much of the country, with highest temperatures of 16 to 21 degrees .
Tonight will bring further scattered heavy showers and these will merge to longer spells of rain across Atlantic counties, with spot flooding and isolated thunderstorms possible.
Tomorrow will begin breezy, with prolonged spells of rain in Connacht and Ulster and west Munster and with occasional heavy showers elsewhere.
Spot flooding and isolated thunderstorms are possible in the west and northwest, with highest temperatures of 15 to 20 degrees.
And on Friday, as Electric Picnic begins, it will start breezy for most, with brisk westerly winds.
Sunny spells and passing heavy showers will occur, most frequent across the northern half of the country and local lightning is also possible for northern counties.
It will be mild in any mid-afternoon sunshine with highest temperatures of 15 to 21 degrees.
Many areas will be dry for Friday night with clear spells and passing coastal showers, though rain will arrive into south and west areas later in the night.
On Saturday and Sunday, Met Éireann said there is uncertainty as to the exact detail but there is the potential for some significant rainfall and blustery winds, particularly during Saturday.
Speaking yesterday to The Journal, Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather said that festival goers can expect good sunny spells at times but warned that there will be rain and showers, some of which will be heavy.
“There will be cloud around on Saturday morning too,” said O’Reilly, “but it should improve through the weekend, with less cloud and more sunny spells.
“It will be breezy but with no significant winds and it will feel warm in the sunshine but cooler in the cloud, so a very mixed weekend, you’ll want to dress for all seasons.”

Elsewhere, some people have been warning about a hurricane impacting Electric Picnic but O’Reilly said there is no fear of this.
“The remnants of Hurricane Erin are well off the west coast but it’s a low-pressure system that’s weakening all the time, so it will bring us some spells of showers and a breeze but that’s about it.”
