We're in for a wet and windy weekend - but there's high pressure on the way next week

Much of the wet weather will be concentrated in the east and southeast of the country.

WE’RE IN FOR a wet and windy weekend, with cooler conditions also on the way.

Much of the wet weather will be concentrated in the east and southeast of the country.

Tomorrow will see rain, drizzle, mist and fog particularly in the southeast of the country. The west will stay mostly dry with some sun breaking through the clouds.

From 2pm tomorrow until midnight on Saturday a Status Yellow rain warning will come into force for Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork and Waterford.

Met Éireann has also issued Status Yellow weather warnings across fourteen counties for Saturday with heavy, possibly thundery, rain to be expected.

The warning covers Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork, Tipperary and Waterford.

There is also a possibility of more widespread heavy, possibly thundery, rain on Saturday.

While Met Éireann says temperatures will be in the low teens it will feel cooler than that “with the added wind chill effect from a fresh and gusty northerly wind, which will be stronger in some coastal parts”.

The UK Met Office has also issued a Status Yellow rain warning for Antrim and Down, valid from 12pm on Saturday to 3am on Sunday.

Current indications are for a much improved weather picture for the early days of next week, Met Éireann says, with high pressure building. It will continue to stay cool though with temperatures in the mid-teens.
