Masked men try to make delivery man bring package to police station

The driver was making a delivery in the Strand Road area when the incident occurred.

MEN WITH SCARVES covering their faces tried to force a delivery driver to bring a package to a police station last night.

Detectives at Strand Road in Derry are appealing for witnesses following an incident in the Creggan area.

They said that at approximately 8pm last night the driver of a fast food delivery van was approached by two men with scarves over their faces while he was making a delivery to a house in the High Park area.

“They intimated that they wanted him to deliver a package to Strand Road Police Station,” said the police.

However, at this point the driver fled on foot and left his van in the area. His van was subsequently taken away from the area by police for forensic examination.

Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area around 8pm and saw anything relating to this incident to contact them at Strand Road on 0845 600 8000.
