Summer is (almost) officially over, and temperatures are expected to dip this week

August, the final month of meteorological summer, is coming to a close and so are those sunny, humid days.

AS IRELAND CLAIMS the remnants of Hurricane Erin, the country should feel a marked change in temperatures that spells the end of summer.

August, the final month of meteorological summer, is coming to a close and so are those sunny, humid days.

Conditions are to become more unsettled, with blustery weather and lower temperatures forecast.

It’ll begin today, when we’ll feel a cold front coming from the remnants of Hurricane Erin, which Met Éireann says is now a regular area of low pressure.

After a cloudy but mostly dry start to the day, clouds will build from the west later this afternoon as a band of rain spreads across the country.

The rain may be heavy at times with the odd rumble of thunder.

Temperatures will reach highs of 19 to 23 degrees.

Tuesday will be breezy, unsettled and a bit cooler than recent days.

Scattered showers will drift over the country with fresh and blustery southwesterly winds.

There will be some sunny spells tomorrow afternoon but more cloud will develop in the evening. Highest temperatures of 17 to 20 degrees are expected. The east will see the most sunshine.

Wednesday will bring heavy showers in the west and in southern counties, and temperatures of around 16 to 19 degrees

Thursday and Friday will see the “final nail in the coffin” of summer, Met Éireann says, with low pressure, a few showers and cooler temperatures forecast.
