POLICE HAVE SAID a ‘suspicious device’ in Ballymena turned out to be an elaborate hoax.

The security alert began earlier this morning in the Pentagon area but has now ended.

Army Technical Officers, who were tasked to the report of a suspicious object, carried out a number of controlled explosions and have declared the device an elaborate hoax, the PSNI said.

All roads have been re-opened – diversions had been in place at Cullybackey Road, North Road and Ballymoney Road car park.
