The 5 at 5 5 minutes, 5 stories, 5 o’clock…

EVERY WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you five things you need to know before you head out the door…

1. #MEDIA: The veteran editor of the Sunday Independent, Aengus Fanning, has died aged 69. Tributes have been paid by a number of public figures including the Taoiseach and Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin.

2. #COSTA CONCORDIA: As five more bodies are found aboard the cruise ship that capsized off the Italian coast, astonishing audio recordings have emerged in which the captain is ordered to return to the ship by port officials.

3. #FRACKING: Councils in Donegal and Sligo have joined other local authorities in banning fracking, amid fears over the potential effects of the technique used to extract underground shale gas.

4. #CROKE PARK: Support for the Croke Park deal appears to be ebbing, with majority of Fine Gael and Labour councillors now in favour of changing it, according to a survey carried out by FG Senator Catherine Noone.

5. #EXPLAINER: Some people from abroad have been known to get confused about Britain and Ireland – who’s who and where’s what. But it’s simple, as this video from Dubliner Mark Cantan clearly shows.
