EVERY DAY, TheJournal.ie brings you a round-up of all the day’s news as well as the bits and pieces that you may have missed.

• A court in Drogheda has heard how some elderly residents at a nursing home in Co Meath were at risk of hypothermia, given how cold the Creevelea Nursing Home in Laytown was when a HIQA inspector visited. HIQA wants the home struck off the register.
• There’s mixed news on the financial front: there’s no developments from the Luxembourg summit of any reduction in our bailout interest rate, though apparently we’ve managed to get Germany on our site – it’s now all down to the French.
  On that note, though, the summit has agreed a relatively minor change to the EU’s permanent bailout funds which could, potentially, help Ireland avoid the need for a second bailout in 2013. Here’s a quick guide to how it might help.
• A man has been arrested in Co Sligo in connection with a murder in Co Laois four years ago. Tommy Thompson, a British father-of-five, went missing from a rented home in April 2007; his remains were found nine months later.
• The MEAS group for alcohol awareness has called for new laws on the sale of below-cost alcohol, after the country’s two largest publicans groups pulled out of the association. Publicans thought a voluntary code of practice on cheap alcohol sales was putting them at risk of closure.
• Cadbury’s has been given a let off by Britain’s advertising standards agency – which ruled that an ad for its Bliss bar was not racist, despite the manufacturer having already apologised for it. The ad compared the bar to Naomi Campbell, which the model thought was an unfair racial comment.
• There’s no doubting that Rory McIlroy is the man of the moment – but here’s a clip you might not have caught yet. It’s a 9-year-old Rory on UTV, showing Gerry Kelly how he practiced at home. Hint: domestic appliances may be involved.
• South Dublin County Council is set to discuss a move that would see a stand at Tallaght Stadium named after Ireland’s record goalscorer, Robbie Keane, after a motion to that effect was passed by a sub-committee today.

• A factory in Monaghan has been ordered to close down. Not because of bad business practices, though… it’s because the place stinks too badly.

• You know those TED talks that are always awesome? Someone’s been putting together a speadsheet of every single one. And not only does it list each one, but it also ranks them in terms of how popular they are online.
