Train line re-opens between Malahide and Skerries but delays and route alterations expected

Irish Rail has said services are expected to resume shortly.

LAST UPDATE | 31 Jul 2025

THE TRAIN LINE between Malahide and Skerries has re-opened but delays are route alterations are expected.

The line closure had caused significant disruption to Belfast and Northern Commuter rail services this morning.

Irish Rail says the disruption was due to a serious incident on the line and emergency services attended at the scene.

Services between Dundalk, Drogheda, Malahide and Dublin, as well as the Dublin to Belfast Enterprise, were heavily affected.

The line has since re-opened and Irish Rail said “services are expected to resume shortly”.

It added that “some delays and alterations may be experienced as a result of the stoppage”.

Irish Rail said that Dublin Bus is accepting rail tickets in the affected areas, and arrangements are being made for bus transfers on the Belfast route.
