There's lots of disruption to train services this weekend - here's the list of affected routes

Passengers are being advised to check timetables and expect longer journey times.

RAIL PASSENGERS ARE being warned to expect major disruption this weekend, as Irish Rail carries out significant works affecting routes in Dublin.

The works will affect routes in and out of Dublin Heuston, as well as services between Dún Laoghaire and Greystones.

Irish Rail said in a statement that the works will take place today and tomorrow (Sunday), with all Heuston routes impacted due to track replacement and culvert renewals between Heuston and Newbridge.

This means Intercity and commuter services will face bus transfers and revised timetables across multiple lines.

The full list of affected intercity routes in Dublin Heuston is as follows:

  • Services between Dublin and Cork, and between Dublin and Limerick will include bus transfers between Dublin Heuston and Portarlington in both directions, and operate to a revised schedule
  • Dublin to Tralee direct services will operate between Mallow and Tralee only, with connections to/from Cork services, to a revised schedule
  • Services between Dublin and Galway, and between Dublin and Westport/Ballina will include bus transfers between Dublin Heuston and Kildare in both directions, and operate to a revised schedule
  • Services between Dublin and Waterford will include bus transfers between Dublin Heuston and Athy in both directions, and operate to a revised schedule
  • Services between Limerick and Ballybrophy (via Nenagh) will operate to a revised schedule

Commuter trains between Heuston and Kildare (and Heuston and Portlaoise) are also cancelled for the weekend, though limited bus connections will operate between several stations.

Meanwhile, southside DART users will also face disruption, with no services running between Dún Laoghaire and Greystones due to bridge replacement and coastal defence works, which were rescheduled from earlier this month because of Storm Amy.

Dublin Bus and Go-Ahead have confirmed that they will accept rail tickets on affected routes.

This evening, separate track works on the Sligo line will see bus transfers between Longford and Dromod.

Irish Rail has apologised for the inconvenience, and urged customers to check updated timetables and travel arrangements on its website or app before travelling.
