THE NEW SEASON of True Detective is just days away and there are plenty of reasons to be excited about its return.

Critics have been unanimous in their praise of True Detective: Night Country so far with the newest season garnering a debut score of 100% at Rotten Tomatoes. This makes it the highest rated season of the show so far, surpassing season one’s 91% rating.

In other words, critics’ reviews suggest that True Detective: Night Country will be the best season yet when it premieres on Sky Atlantic on January 15.

The new season of the Sky Exclusive was written and directed by Issa López and stars Academy Award Winner Jodie Foster, in her first major television role. Foster is joined by professional boxer Kali Reis as co-lead in this series along with Christopher Eccleston and John Hawkes.

In True Detective: Night Country, Foster and Reis respectively play Alaskan detectives Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro. The two are tasked with investigating the mysterious disappearances of the employees of a research centre in the haunting town of Ennis, while they must also “confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice,” per the show’s description.
