Unexploded bomb discovered in Uganda

Four arrested in investigation into Sunday’s bombing.

AN UNEXPLODED vest bomb has been discovered in Uganda’s capital as authorities continue to investigate Sunday’s double bombing, AP reports. The vest was loaded with ball bearings and found at a disco, suggesting that a third bombing had been planned.

Four people were arrested in connection with the discovery. None of the four is Ugandan, according to investigators, but no further details have yet emerged. Somali militant group Al-Shabab has claimed responsibility for the attacks, but investigators suggested that a Ugandan militant group, the Allied Democratic Forces, may also have played a part.

Seventy-six people were killed, including one Irish woman, when two bombs exploded in Kimpala as people watched the World Cup final. Lay missionary Marie Smith, 51, from Dublin was killed in the blasts. Ms Smith had worked for over 30 years in Africa.
