Woman in her 80s dies following five-vehicle crash on M1 last Friday

Separately, a male motorcyclist in his 20s is in critical condition following a serious collision in Co Wexford yesterday.

A WOMAN IN her 80s who was hospitalised following a five-vehicle collision on the M1 near Drogheda last Friday has died. 

Gardaí and emergency services responded to the collision on the M1 Northbound at Platin, just before the toll bridge, shortly after 11.10am. 

Three people were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for treatment. One of those, the woman in her 80s, has since died. 

The coroner has been notified and a postmortem examination will take place in due course.

A senior investigating officer has been appointed to lead the investigation and gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them.

Any road users who were travelling in the area at the time and who may have camera footage, including dash-cam footage, are asked to make the footage available to gardaí.

Separately, a male motorcyclist in his 20s is in critical condition following a serious collision on the R730 at Killurin, Co Wexford yesterday.

Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to the collision, involving a car and a motorcycle at approximately 11.45pm.

The motorcyclist was taken to Wexford General Hospital for treatment and has since been transferred to Beaumont Hospital. No other injuries were reported. 

The road has been closed for a technical examination. Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 11.30pm to 12am are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
