Update: One woman killed in hen party mini-bus crash

The minibus was carrying a group on women when it was involved in the crash with a lorry on the M62.

Updated: 3.24pm

ONE WOMAN HAS died and dozens more injured in a major road crash in West Yorkshire today, authorities confirmed.

Motorists have been asked to avoid the M62 as police and emergency services attempt to deal with the two-vehicle collision.

The lorry and the mini-bus crashed at about 11.30am today. It is understood the bus was carrying a group of local women to a hen party. Nineteen of the passengers received injuries, with six said to be serious, according to police.

However, a spokesperson for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust said the injury list was greater.

“At this time we can confirm that we have treated and transported 25 patients and are working in close partnership with hospitals in the area, including Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield and Leeds General Infirmary.”

Work is ongoing to free those who are still trapped in the wreckage. The air ambulance and a doctor have been on the scene.

The driver of the lorry – also a local man – was arrested.
