Garda make arrest following armed robbery in Co Kildare

At approximately 4pm yesterday a male armed with a handgun entered a shop in the Dunbrin area of Athy.

GARDAÍ HAVE ARRESTED a man and recovered cash and an imitation firearm following an armed robbery in Athy, Co Kildare last night.

At approximately 4pm a male armed with a handgun entered a shop in the Dunbrin area of Athy.

He threatened staff before leaving the scene with a sum of cash.

During a follow-up operation involving Gardaí from Athy, other local units and assistance from the Garda Air Support Unit, a 20-year-old man was arrested a short time later.

He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Newbridge Garda Station.

An imitation firearm and a sum of money have also been recovered by investigating Gardaí.

Investigations are ongoing and further updates will follow.
