Record breaker: Woman gives birth to 13lb 6oz baby... naturally

… without even an epidural.

GIVING BIRTH IS no easy feat, but a 40-year-old woman has broken records in Spain by giving birth to a 13lb 6oz baby naturally – she should be given a medal, in fact, she should be given all of the medals.

The 40-year-old British woman gave birth yesterday to the biggest baby ever born naturally in Spain – a girl weighing 13lbs 6oz.

Maxime Marin delivered the baby at 4.43 am at the Hospital Marina Salud in the Mediterranean city of Denia.

Larger babies are often delivered by a caesarean section, but Marin did not even need an epidural – a painkiller delivered into the spine during childbirth.

Marin, who lives in Spain with her Colombian partner, said she knew the baby would be big “but not that big”.

She has given birth to three other children, all of them weighing around 10 pound when they were delivered.

Both the baby, named Maria Lorena Marin, and the mother are doing well after the birth although the newborn remains in the neonatal care unit.
