THIS BEAUTIFUL IMAGE of Dublin, taken on the International Space Station, was tweeted in the early hours of this morning by Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield.

Hadfield was at first unsure which port town featured in the image which was taken through a gap in our seemingly constant cloud cover, but his Twitter followers quickly chimed in that it was Ireland’s capital city. Isn’t that lovely?

You can possibly make it out better on the original snap but you can clearly make out Croke Park (or at least you can if you know Dublin well and have a fighting chance to start looking for it). That’s kind of awesome actually…

It’s upside down. So is this the way it actually is?
Are Sligo / Donegal people who say they are going UP to Dublin actually right then or is it their feeling of subservience that has them saying that?
In Cork – we only say UP because it actually is UP – but if our maps are wrong then there’s an opportunity to align the physical with the psychological and make Ireland a better place.

  Well strictly speaking it could be the other way around,just because someone decided North was North and all the maps and globes are made that way doesnt necessarily mean its correct!

What is with everyone hating on Dublin, I was born and raised in Dublin as where my dads side of the family and I’m proud to be from there. I’m living in Meath now with my husband to be but travel back all the time. It the capital, it’s a nice city. Deal with it!!!!
