Motorcyclist seriously injured in collision with garda car

The man was taken to the Mater Hospital with serious injuries.

A MAN HAS been seriously injured after his motorcycle struck a garda car.

The incident occurred just before 5am this morning at the junction of Sean McDermott Street and Buckingham Street in Dublin’s Summerhill.

The man was taken to the Mater Hospital with serious injuries, but has since been brought to Beaumont Hospital.

The road remains closed and diversions are in place. The Garda Ombudsman is investigating the incident as it involved a garda vehicle.

A statement from GSOC says that serious damage was done to both vehicles.

“The incident was referred by the Garda Síochána to GSOC under section 102 of the Garda Síochána Act 2005, which is normal procedure when a death or serious harm has occurred and there has been Garda contact. A team of GSOC investigators has attended the scene and an investigation to establish the circumstances of the collision is being undertaken.

“GSOC is appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who has information which may assist the investigation, to contact them on 1890 600 800.

“Further information will be released as it becomes available.”
