Fine Gael accepts Pat Cox's application to join the party

Cox is now expected to seek the FG nomination in the race for the Áras. He’s a former MEP and European Parliament president.

FINE GAEL HAS accepted an application by former European Parliament president Pat Cox to join the party.

Cox, a former Progressive Democrat, had applied to join at St. Luke’s Branch in the Cork North Central constituency, and his application has now been approved.

He is expected to join Fine Gael MEPs Mairead McGuinness and Gay Mitchell in seeking the party’s nomination in the race for Áras an Uachtaráin later this year.

A recent poll conducted by TheJournal.ie found that Pat Cox was the most popular of the three Fine Gael hopefuls.
