Ireland has three of the world's top five friendliest cities

Including the top spot. Ah go ‘way.

GALWAY HAS BEEN named the friendliest city in the world by readers of Yahoo! Travel, with Dublin and Cork close behind.

Irish cities occupy three of the top four slots in the reader-voted list, published over the weekend.

But Galway – with an aggregate score of 92.025 – tops the list. “The hospitality and the humour of Ireland’s people makes it a perfect destination,” wrote one visitor.

Dublin came in at number three, with a mention of the ‘Hipster Triangle’ packed with “creative locals” and a score of 91.342.

And Cork is just behind at number four. Here, “courteous locals welcome visitors with open arms”, according to Yahoo readers. Score 90.840.

The dubious accolade of World’s Unfriendliest City, meanwhile, went to Moscow, a place dragged down by the “aloofness” of the people. Also in the bottom ten – composed exclusively of Russian, US and French cities – are New York, LA, Marseille and Cannes.

The top ten in full:

  1. Galway
  2. Charleston, US
  3. Dublin
  4. Cork
  5. Siem Reap, Cambodia
  6. Auckland, NZ
  7. Melbourne, Australia
  8. Sydney, Australia
  9. Edinburgh, Scotland
  10. Savannah, US
