Young man dies in Kildare road crash

The incident has been referred to the Garda Ombudsman and the Naas to Newbridge lanes of the dual carriageway are currently closed.

A MAN HAS died following a road crash in Naas in the early hours of this morning with the incident being referred to the Garda Ombudsman.

The man in his mid-20s was involved a two car collision on the Naas to Newbridge R455 dual carriageway at around 3.20am this morning.

It is understood that there was a garda pursuit on the road but there are currently no details on the nature of the collision.

The man was taken to Naas General Hospital where he died of his injuries.

The Naas to Newbridge lanes of the R445 dual carriageway are currently closed to traffic.

The matter was referred to the Ombudsman by the Garda Commissioner under section 102 of the Garda Síochána Act 2005.

GSOC (Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission) investigators are currently at the scene.

This is the 3rd person to die on Co.kildare roads this month.For all of 2012 one person was killed.

Yes it is true 2012 only one person died on Kildare. 3 this year already. RIP to them. Very sad

Agree with u aileen. He’s left a family behind that are absolutely devastated. I only heard this evening. His parents are neighbour of my dads. Very sad.

A lot of my friends and my partner were very great friends of his and are hurting really bad and for them to read the negative comments is just wrong. Everyone makes mistakes I just hope those people who are so quick to judge never go through what his family and friends are going through at the moment.

  The car was stolen and had passed through Naas town at speed. The drivers actions could have led to alot more carnage than just the one death.

Some people should have a bit of respect doesnt matter the situation or wether the car was stolen or who was speeding. At the end of the day a young mans life is gone have a bit of respect for his grieving family and friends.

I’m hugely supportive of the Garda and the work they do but I have witnessed on a few occasions some members of the Garda goading drivers into breaking the limit in order to get the driver to speed.
I also witnessed a young driver who was admittedly speeding ( 150 kph on a 120 kph zone )on an empty dual carrigeway when a patrol car sped down an off ramp to pull across and block the carriageway only a few hundred yards in front of a speeding car.
The latest now is a battered car in the rathfarnham atea with no tail lights and one front light staffed by two uniformed officers.
If they attempted to pull me over I would drive on to the nearest syation in fear of an attempted hijacking.

  @cormac there used to be a garda based out of Middleton in cork, red unmarked car, would pull alongside cars in the other lane, the driver would then vary both speed and pull in your lane in front or behind you, many drivers would forget speed as they pulled away from said red car until blue lights would come on. This practice USED to happen about ten years ago.

Why has it been referred to the ombudsman? Any further details?

I remember once on that stretch of road meeting a car speeding down the hard shoulder missing traffic by inches, and closely followed by 2 squad cars. The most scary and dangerous thing I’ve ever seen.
I looked for references to it the following day across all media, but not a mention.
It was crazy stuff I should have reported myself!!!

  I meant the Garda cars speeding in wrong direction, incredibly close to a massive pileup….you would not believe it.
  
  Surely better plan to radio ahead block all exits or even a road block. It was insane and dangerous to the entire public.
