Landslide destroys hundreds of homes in Bolivian capital
Weeks of heavy rain caused the earth to split and shift dramatically in La Paz yesterday.
A MAJOR MUDSLIDE IN the Bolivian capital La Paz has destroyed hundreds of homes following weeks of heavy rainfall.
The area was evacuated on Saturday amid fears of a landslide and no casualties have been reported, although 44 people are understood to have died as a result of the recent rain across Bolivia.
Government spokesperson, Edwin Herrera, told the AP that yesterday’s landslide was the worst the city has ever seen and said earth continues to move downhill.
Local woman Maria Elena Siles said she was forced to leave everything behind when she fled her home on Saturday night.
Emergency crews have been working to prevent the earth from blocking up a river channel.
