A man has died after being hit by a garda patrol car in Louth

The incident happened at about 1.20am.

A MAN IN his 30s has died after being hit by a garda patrol car in Louth.

GSOC has an investigative team at the scene near Bellurgan. A spokesperson for the office said the road traffic collision involving the garda vehicle and a pedestrian was referred to them in the early hours of this morning.

The incident happened at 1.20am on the main Carlingford to Dundalk road.

A spokesperson for the garda ombudsman said the road will be closed until 10am for forensic examinations.

An appeal for witnesses has been made and anyone with information is asked to contact 1890 600 800.

It is not yet clear if the garda patrol car was on duty at the time.
