Rainfall warning for five counties as US hurricane impacts on Irish weather
Spot flooding has been forecast tomorrow and there will be persistent and heavy rain this weekend.
MET ÉIREANN HAS issued a rainfall warning for five counties and has said there is a risk of spot flooding.
The warning comes as Hurricane Gert passes the US east coast. Though the storm will not hit the US, it is expected to cause massive swells and high winds on the coast.
The hurricane is expected to have lost strength by the time it gets close to Ireland, but it will still impact on Irish weather this weekend.
Met Éireann has a Status Yellow warning in place for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo which ends at 4pm tomorrow.
There will be heavy and thundery downpours giving rainfall totals of 30 to 40mm.
Saturday will be cloudy and cool with rain affecting the southwest during the late evening. And there will be more rain Sunday, persistent and sometimes heavy near west and north coasts.
