'Badly shaken' staff threatened with screwdriver in robbery

Two men got away with a sum of cash.

POLICE APPEALING FOR information following the robbery of commercial premises in the Fitzroy Avenue area of Belfast yesterday.

The PSNI received a report at about 11.30pm that two men gained access to the premises, pushed a female of staff and demanded she hand over money.

“On hearing the woman screaming a number of other people tried to apprehend the men. At this time one of the two men produced a screwdriver and threatened those present,” Detective Inspector Michelle Griffin said.

“One of these men then proceeded to smash the safe and took a sum of money. It is believed that the two men made off in a Toyota Avensis car.”

No one was injured during this incident, but Griffin said: “Everyone was left badly shaken.”

The PSNI has asked anyone with information to contact them on the non-emergency number 101 or anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
