Maths has never been so dangerous: watch the trailer for new movie The Accountant

The story of a mathematical savant who runs numbers for organised crime.

Warner Bros. UK / YouTube

THE ACCOUNTANT IS the story of Christian Wolff, a small-town accountant by day who moonlights as a freelance number-cruncher for some of the most dangerous criminal organisations in the world.

What makes Christian, played by Ben Affleck, different from the average chartered accountant is he’s a mathematical savant – as well as a martial arts and weapons expert – which helps when he gets on the wrong side of some very bad baddies.

In a recent interview, Ben Affleck spoke about telling an unconventional action hero story:

It was original, you know, it’s really an original idea and piece of writing, and unique in that way. And that alone was interesting to see.

Meanwhile, co-star Anna Kendrick said she felt real accountants, like her mother, would be happy with the “sexy hitman makeover” they received in the film.

She’s (her mother) really excited. She’s lived her life having the reputation that her favourite colour must be grey, and enduring those types of jokes.

USA Today says that The Accountant brings a new twist to the action hero role:

Ben Affleck brings needed nuance to old-fashioned brains and brawn as an action hero with high-functioning autism in The Accountant.

If you like your action flicks with a little more brains, The Accountant might be just what you’re looking for. Variety said:

The Accountant is nothing if not a puzzle — not so much a jigsaw as a three-dimensional brain teaser that gets deeper and stranger with each new revelation.

Fancy checking out The Accountant? It will be on general release from Warner Bros today, 4 November 2016.
