Three arrested after man seen entering river

Police have recovered a body in the search for the missing man, believed to be a 21-year-old from Ballymena.

Updated, 7.12pm

POLICE AND OTHER agencies have recovered a body this afternoon after a young man was seen entering a river in Co Derry last night.

Three men have been arrested following the incident, which happened at the Bann Road bridge over the river Bann, near Kilrea.

Initial reports suggested the missing man had been seen jumping into the water at around 6pm last night. He is believed to be a 21-year-old from nearby Ballymena, Co Antrim. The body is yet to be identified.

In the wake of the incident, the PSNI appealed for information on a number of men reportedly seen leaving the area in a red car shortly after the man entered the water.

The three taken into custody are males aged 25, 26 and 30. They are currently helping police with their inquiries.

An appeal has been issued for anyone who was in the area around 6pm and may have seen anything to contact police in Coleraine, or the independent Crimestoppers charity.
