Victim in Northern launderette shooting named as Marion Millican

Millican, 51, was shot dead while at work in Portstewart yesterday; a 48-year-old man has been arrested.

POLICE HAVE NAMED the victim of yesterday afternoon’s shooting in a launderette in Co Derry as Marion Millican, a 51-year-old woman who worked in the Portstewart business.

Millican, a native of the seaside town, was hit by a single gunshot wound in the incident yesterday lunchtime and died at the scene.

A 48-year-old man was arrested in Kilrea, about 20 miles away, in connection with the incident – and remains in police custody in Antrim.

UTV News said that though police had not confirmed any motive for the killing, but that it was understood there was a domestic element to the dispute.

PSNI detectives have asked anyone who may have seen a gold-coloured Renault Clio car, registration CHZ 771, before or after the shooting to contact them.

Local MLAs have condemned the attack.
