Witness appeal after woman dies in collision

The incident occurred on the N6 at 9am today.

A WOMAN HAS died and a man was injured in a two-car collision this morning.

The incident occurred at 9am today at Cornafulla, the old N6, Athlone – Ballinasloe Road.

Gardaí said that a 49-year-old female was fatally injured when the car she was driving collided with another car.

She was brought to Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe County Galway where she was pronounced dead. A post-mortem is to be arranged.

The male driver of the second vehicle was also brought to Portiuncula Hospital. He has non-life threatening injuries, said gardaí.

The road is currently closed to facilitate Garda forensic collision investigators, and diversions are in place.
