REVENUE OFFICERS AT Dublin Port seized smuggled alcohol and cigarettes with a total retail value of almost €21,000 on Saturday.
As part of an intelligence-led operation, a Romanian-registered bus that arrived on a ferry from Holyhead was stopped and searched – uncovering the smuggled alcohol and cigarettes branded Marlboro, Winston, Monte Carlo, Pall Mall and Kent.
The contraband had been packaged in unaccompanied parcels and sent on the bus from Romania for delivery in Dublin.
Much of the alcohol had been transferred to non-descript containers in an attempt to conceal its true nature.
In a separate operation, Revenue seized €357,000 worth of cigarettes in hot tubs at Rosslare Europort on Saturday.
These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the supply and sale of illegal cigarettes and illicit alcohol.
If businesses or members of the public have any information regarding the smuggling or sale of illegal cigarettes, tobacco or alcohol, they can contact Revenue in confidence on the freephone number 1800 295 295.
