PHARMA COMPANY AMGEN is to create 100 new jobs at its Dun Laoghaire facility.
The firm has committed to a $200 million expansion programme which will see roles created in the areas of engineering, quality management, as well as some jobs in manufacturing and warehouse control. Recruitment has already begun for high-end positions with entry-level jobs coming on stream later this year.
The Government today said that the multi-million dollar plans for a new production plant, expanded warehouse and major refurbishment means 350 construction workers will be required during the 19-month building period.
A significant research and development investment has also been promised.
The announcement comes about a year after Amgen purchased the Dun Laoghaire plant from Pfizer, saving the 280 jobs posted there.
The biotechnology company is currently developing a drug which may help the recovery of people with heart failure. Globally, the firm works on therapies for cancer, kidney disease, rheumatoid arthritis, bone disease and other serious illness.
The investment in Ireland is supported by the Irish Government through IDA Ireland.
