Apple v Samsung: German court upholds injunction banning sale of Galaxy tablets

The battle between Apple and Samsung continues with another ‘win’ for Apple in Germany today.

A GERMAN COURT today upheld a ruling banning Samsung from selling its Galaxy 10.1 tablets in the country.

A significant win for Apple, Reuters reports that Samsung has already confirmed it will appeal the decision.

The temporary injunction bans Samsung Germany from selling the tablet in Germany but retailers will still be able to get their hands on the device through Samsung International.

The German subsidiary is also banned from exporting the tablet to other European countries, says Reuters. However, analysts have said the decision will not impact Samsung’s sales significantly as the tablets will still be widely available.

Explaining her ruling, Judge Johanna Brueckner-Hofmann said the Galaxy tablet was too similar to the design of Apple’s iPad.

The two companies have been at loggerheads over the design of their tablets and smartphones since April. According to the Wall Street Journal, there are currently 19 legal battles ensuing in nine different countries.

Last month, Apple secured an injunction blocking the sale of some of Samsung’s smartphone in the Netherlands.
