Man charged after father and daughter seriously injured in hammer attack

The attack happened in a residential area in the north Dublin suburb yesterday afternoon.

A 31-YEAR-OLD man has been charged in relation to yesterday’s hammer attack in Artane, north Dublin.

An elderly man and his daughter were seriously injured in the incident when, at approximately 1pm yesterday, a man and a woman entered the house of the elderly man, who was alone at the time, and demanded money from him.

The homeowner was then assaulted with a hammer and sustained serious injuries.During the incident the elderly man’s daughter returned to the house and was also attacked and seriously injured.

The suspects then fled the scene on foot. The father and daughter were taken by ambulance to Beaumont Hospital where they are being treated for their injuries.

In a follow-up operation a 31-year-old man was arrested and subsequently charged. Having appeared before Dublin District Court this morning, he has now been remanded in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court on Wednesday, 24 April.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to the incident as their investigation continues.
