EVERY SATURDAY MORNING we take a look at all the best comments left on the site by our readers over the past seven days.
This week there was a lot of talk about Ireland’s win over world champions Germany, the An Post strike and the possibility of a November election.
So here, in no particular order, are the standout comments from the week that was.

Standout comments of the week
Sean Barber summed up how a lot of people were feeling after Ireland defeated Germany 1-0:
I love Shane Long
Matt McCallion approved, anyway:
very concise and factual comment
Let’s watch it one more time:
People were divided over whether a t-shirt worn by Meryl Streep on the cover of Time Out London was offensive.
It reads: “I’d rather be a rebel than a slave”, a quote from British suffragette activist Emmeline Pankhurst, whom Streep portrays in the forthcoming film Suffragette.
Kian had this to say on the subject:
“offended just about everyone” I think you will find that the “outraged” people on twitter make up less than 0.1% of the population. “Just about everyone” doesn’t care at all. We have to stop taking these twitter comments as representative of the larger population, they make everyone seem outraged when in fact they are a very, very small minority. They just happen to be louder than the rest.
A lot of you were inspired by a TV3 documentary about Elber Twomey – who lost her husband, infant son and unborn daughter when a suicidal driver hit their car during a holiday in Torquay in England three years ago.
Niall Lonergan had this to say:
You can’t even begin to imagine what that woman went through.
While John Doyle added:
wow!! And I have a cheek to complain about it being a Monday. inspirational woman
Kelvin Collins quite liked the Business Insider description of a house owned by the late Simpsons co-creator Sam Simon:
‘Bedrooms…with beautiful glass windows’…. Imagine….glass windows… We can all aspire to have Windows made from glass some day…. Oh how the other half live
Heavy rain earlier in the week hampered Neal Ireland Hello‘s plans:
I was SO going to mow the lawn today, too.
SCO Electrical also, sadly, had to make alternative arrangements:
Today was the day I was going to clean the gutters and outside windows….. dammit
The aptly-named Rocket Raccoon did his best under tough circumstances when a llama went on the loose in Offaly:
I can’t think of a good Llama pun so Alpaca my bags and go now.
Meanwhile, Padraig Corocoran asked a very valid question about a video of a dog
Does that dog have a licence?
Well, DOES SHE? We may never know.
The whole thing got Guy Incognito thinking practically:
must get my dog trained to to that, very handy for a lift home from the pub!
