THERE ARE JUST 11 days left before Christmas, and ESB Networks reminds people not to take risks with electricity in the run-up to the holiday.
The company is warning people never to use ESB Networks poles to hang outdoor Christmas lights as the electricity wires overhead are live and extremely dangerous.
“You must always keep a safe distance because electricity is very powerful and can jump gaps,” it said in a statement.
It’s also reminding people to ensure their electrical equipment around the home is in good condition.
“At this time of year, storms and strong winds can cause damage to electricity wires and poles, bringing wires to the ground, always be alert and keep your distance.”
It’s reminding people that fallen electricity wires are live and therefore dangerous to approach, and asked the public to report any damage immediately to ESB Networks on 1800 372 999/021 238 2410.
The ESB has issued some further safety tips.
