Man shot dead by federal agents in Minneapolis

The victim was a 37-year-old white male American citizen from Minnesota who held a gun licence, police said, withholding his name.

LAST UPDATE | 2 hrs ago

A MAN WAS shot dead by federal agents in the US city of Minneapolis, the Department of Homeland Security confirmed.

The man was a 37-year-old white American citizen from Minnesota who held a gun licence, police said, withholding his name.

In a post to X, the Department said the man was armed.

“Fearing for his life and the lives and safety of fellow officers, an agent fired defensive shots. Medics on scene immediately delivered medical aid to the subject, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.”

It also said the shooting occurred during “a targeted operation in Minneapolis against an illegal alien wanted for violent assault”.

A video of the shooting shows a man who appears to have been shot during a street disturbance, with several gunshots heard and at least one person in the vicinity wearing a vest marked “POLICE”.

The video shows at least seven apparent officers grappling with the man before a gunshot rings out.

The state’s governor Tim Walz said he had spoken with the White House “after another horrific shooting by federal agents this morning”.

“Minnesota has had it. This is sickening.

“The President must end this operation. Pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota. Now.”

US President Donald Trump hit out at state politicians online following the shooting.

“The Mayor and the Governor are inciting Insurrection, with their pompous, dangerous, and arrogant rhetoric,” Trump wrote on social media, ratcheting up his stand-off with Democratic mayor Jacob Frey and Walz.

Trump has previously threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act, which would allow him to send troops into Minnesota for law enforcement purposes.

Today’s shooting follows the fatal shooting of Renee Good three weeks ago, a 37-year-old American woman who was fatally shot by an ICE agent in Minneapolis on 7 January. Her death sparked protests against the presence of federal agents in the city.

The officer who fired the shots that killed Good, Jonathan Ross, has not been suspended or charged.

A week after her death, a man was shot in the leg by an ICE agent in the same city.
