Dublin Airport advises travellers to use back roads as M50 blocked

Yesterday, dozens of people were spotted ditching their mode of transport and walking along the hard shoulder of the M50 with their suitcases.

DUBLIN AIRPORT HAS advised passengers travelling to and from the airport today to allow extra time for their journey due to the fuel protests.

It has advised people to use live traffic apps to identify the best or quickest route and told would-be passengers that “roads immediately around the airport are okay”.

Speaking this morning on RTÉ’s Morning, Transport Infrastructure Ireland’s (TII) Sean O’Neillsaid that people travelling northbound to the airport will “absolutely” face a blockage on the M50.

“If you’re heading on the M50 northbound and you’re heading to the airport, yes you will face a blockage. But if you’re trying to come beyond the airport down on the M50 coming to Dublin yes you’re going to blocked as well,” he said.

One resource that could help those planning journeys is Transport Infrastructure Ireland’s (TII) traffic map.

It outlines all the incidents, roadworks and congestion spots across the country in real time.

Yesterday, dozens of people were spotted ditching their mode of transport and walking along the hard shoulder of the M50 with their suitcases to make it to the airport on time.

The M50 was essentially a car park yesterday afternoon, as a slow-moving convoy of protesters travelled along the northbound road.

A TII spokesperson this morning told RTÉ that those travelling to Dublin Airport along the M50 northbound will face the blockades.

For those travelling southbound on the M1 there are also delays at Drogheda and by Dundalk in Co Louth.
