BEIDH UACHTARÁNACHT CHOMHAIRLE an Aontais Eorpaigh ag Éire ó mhí Iúil ar aghaidh agus beidh an Ghaeilge ar chomhchéim leis an mBéarla i rith na thréimhse seo don chéad uair riamh.

Ach cén tábhacht a bhaineann leis an nGaeilge san Aontas Eorpach?

Labhair The Journal le Jason Gavin, ateangaire a bhíonn ag obair sna institiúidí Eorpach faoin obair atá ar siúl aige agus an tábhacht a bhaineann leis don teanga.

Deir sé go bhfuil sé iontach tábhachtach go bhfuil an Ghaeilge feiceálach toisc go gcosnaíonn sé cearta teanga cainteoirí Gaeilge.

IRELAND WILL HOLD the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from July onwards and the Irish language will be on an equal footing with English during this period for the first time ever.

But how important is the Irish language in the European Union?

The Journal spoke to Jason Gavin, an interpreter working in the European institutions, about the work he does and the importance it has for the Irish language.

He says that it is very important that the Irish language is visible because it protects the linguistic rights of Irish speakers.
