Media Minister Patrick O'Donovan to return to work in September

O’Donovan was hospitalised in Brussels earlier this month.

CULTURE AND MEDIA Minister Patrick O’Donovan is set to return to his duties in September after taking ill earlier this month, a government spokesperson has confirmed.

O’Donovan became unwell and was hospitalised in Belgium earlier this month before being flown back to Ireland on the government’s private jet a few days later

Asked for an update on the minister’s health today, a government spokesperson said he continues to convalesce at home, with a number of events he was due to attend cancelled or postponed.

The spokesperson said O’Donovan is “still continuing to fulfil his statutory responsibility as minister” and will resume his full duties in September “all going well”.

The minister has previously spoken about being diagnosed with epilepsy in 2016.

He previously spoke out about being “terrified” when he collapsed in an aggressive seizure while speaking in the Dáil chamber in June 2023.
