Barry Keoghan says online abuse about his appearance is so bad he doesn't want to go outside

“There’s a lot of abuse of how I look.. it’s made me shy away. It’s made me really go inside myself,” he told American radio station SiriusXM.

DUBLIN ACTOR BARRY Keoghan has said the ”abuse” he is subjected to online about his appearance has become so bad that he no longer wants to go outside.

Speaking to American radio station SiriusXM, Keoghan said the comments are “becoming a problem”.

“There’s a lot of hate online,” he said. “There’s a lot of abuse of how I look. It’s made me shy away. It’s made me really go inside myself, not want to attend places, not want to go outside.”

The Saltburn star, who deactivated his Instagram in 2024, said that despite not being active on social media, he often checks the online reaction after public appearances.

He said the reaction is generally “not nice” and has led to him “hiding away” from the spotlight.

“I actually don’t go to places because of these things,” he said.

He said he fears that the impact the comments are having on him may affect his career.

“When that starts leaking into your art, it becomes a problem, because then you don’t want to even be on screen anymore,” he said.

“It is disappointing for the fans, but it’s also disappointing that my little boy has to read all of this stuff when he gets older.”

Keoghan is due to star as Ringo Starr in the upcoming series of biopics of The Beatles members being made by British director Sam Mendes.
