Third night of disturbances in Belfast
The PSNI has called for “anyone with influence” to help them bring an end to the renewed violence.

AN AREA OF north Belfast witnessed violent scenes for the third night in-a-row yesterday after tensions escalated over a dispute about parades.

Police said that they were dealing with public disorder in the Denmark Street and Carlisle Circus areas after a number of missiles, including fireworks, were thrown at officers.

Three members of the PSNI sustained minor injuries but did not require medical treatment. Six people were arrested during the riots and remain in custody.

Although a water cannon was moved into the street, it was not used.

Tuesday’s disorder marked the third night of violence in the area and the PSNI has called on senior politicians to sort out the background issues.

According to BBC News, Assistant Chief Constable Will Kerr fears someone will be killed if the violence persists.

“Sort this out, and sort it out now,” was his message to politicians and community leaders.

Emergency talks are to be held at Stormont Castle later today, reports The Guardian. First Minister Peter Robinson and Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness will host Assembly members from north Belfast with a view to ending the period of  disorder.

Motorists were asked to avoid Carlisle Circus as police maintained a presence in the area but it was opened to traffic just before midnight.
