THE MOTHER OF Cathriona White, the Tipperary-born former girlfriend of Jim Carrey, is suing the actor over White’s death.

Brigid Sweetman has filed suit seeking damages from Carrey concerning her daughter’s alleged wrongful death and the actor’s violation of the drug dealer liability act.

In court documents which have been widely reported upon, Sweetman alleges that White died by suicide after discovering that Carrey had been responsible for her contracting three sexually transmitted diseases.

In those court documents Sweetman reportedly alleges that Carrey gave White those STDs “without warning her”, lied to her about the situation, and then ‘dumped’ White “out of concern for saving his own carefully crafted public image”.

The lawsuit is the second such that Carrey has been served with, after White’s estranged husband Mark Burton filed a similar suit in September.

The actor tonight replied to the lawsuit in a statement given via his lawyer Martin Singer to People.com.

“It is understandable that a mother who has lost a daughter will look for someone to blame,” the statement reads.

But in directing her grief and rage at Jim Carrey and joining this ridiculous lawyer’s attempt to capitalise on Cathriona’s suicide, Mrs Sweetman is heading down the same dark path as Cathriona’s green-card ‘husband’ Mark Burton.

Burton’s suit concerns allegations that Carrey provided the prescription drugs that White fatally overdosed with in September 2015.

Burton’s suit accuses Carrey of giving White the medications days before she was found dead in one of the actor’s homes.

White and Carrey dated in 2012 and were photographed together once more in May 2015.

“Jim Carrey should be ashamed of what he did to my daughter,” Sweetman said in a statement accompanying her court documents.

And he should be ashamed for how he has used his Hollywood attorneys to badmouth Cat’s husband Mark with the hope that nobody will hold him responsible for what he did.
