Bus Éireann services running today, but will workers go back on strike tomorrow?
Talks aimed at resolving the dispute between management at workers will continue at the Labour Relations Commission today with the suspension of the strike in place until tomorrow.
BUS ÉIREANN HAS said that the vast majority of its services are operating as normal this morning as the suspension of strike action by workers remains in place for another 24 hours.
Talks at the Labour Relations Commission between management – seeking €5 million in cost-cutting – and the National Bus and Rail Union (NBRU) – seeking to protect their members’ pay and conditions – will resume this morning with today the deadline for an agreement.
In a statement this morning, the bus company advised anyone travelling on their services to check its website, but said:
- All commuter services in the Greater Dublin area are operating. All inter-city services from Dublin are operating.
- All services in Cork, Galway, Limerick, Waterford, Sligo, Mayo, Donegal, Athlone, Cavan, Monaghan, Clare and Kerry are operating normally.
- All School Transport Services are operating normally.
Despite the strike by workers at the NBRU being suspended, Siptu – which represents around 900 workers at Bus Éireann – has said it is to ballot members who work at Dublin Bus and Irish Rail on whether they should join their CIE colleagues on strike in solidarity.
That ballot is due to take place tomorrow and irrespective of the outcome of talks at the LRC, a ballot of Bus Éireann workers affiliated to Siptu will also be counted tomorrow.
