GARDAÍ IN LAOIS have arrested four people after discovering a cannabis growhouse in Portlaoise.
Three men and one woman were arrested at a warehouse in a rural location at Kyletalesha, outside Portlaoise, this evening. Gardaí discovered 1,500 plants and a sophisticated lighting and irrigation system at the facility.
Although further analysis is needed, Gardaí believe the plants could have a street value of €600,000.
Members of the Garda National Drugs Unit investigating the existence of industrial cannabis cultivation sites carried out raids in both Laois and Offaly today.
Those arrested are aged between 35 and 42. They are being detained at Tullamore Garda Station under section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act.
