Woman (80s) dies following road traffic incident in Co Cavan

A WOMAN IN her 80s has died following a road traffic incident in Co Cavan earlier today.

Emergency services attended the scene of the fatal incident in the area of Crosskeys, near Ballyjamesfuff, this afternoon.

The incident involved two cars occurred on a local road in Carrickatober at approximately 3:30pm, Gardaí said in a statement tonight.

One of the drivers, a woman in her 80s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Her body has been removed to Cavan General Hospital where a post-mortem examination is due to take place.

The other driver, a woman in her 40s, was brought to Cavan General Hospital for assessment.

The road was closed for Garda Forensic Collision Investigators to conduct an examination of the scene which has since been completed and the road has now reopened.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to this incident to come forward.

Any road users who were travelling in the area between 3:00pm and 3.30pm are asked to make any camera footage, including dash-cam, they may have available to investigating Gardaí.
