A man has been remanded in custody to appear again before a Dublin court on Thursday, over the seizure – by Customs – of 10,000 illegal cigarettes at Dublin Airport.
The Moldovan national, who is 29, was stopped and searched by customs officers at Dublin airport yesterday.
They found 9,780 illegal cigarettes, with an estimated retail value of €4,200.
The ‘Bond’ brand cigarettes were discovered in a suitcase.
The seizure would have represented a potential loss to the Exchequer of €3,700.
The man, who had arrived from Moscow, was arrested and appeared before Judge Denis McLoughlin in Dublin District Court, this morning.
He has been remanded in custody to appear again before Cloverhill District Court next Thursday.
