Congressman removed from State of the Union for protesting with 'black people aren't apes' sign

Several Democrats left the speech early while Rep Ilhan Omar could be heard shouting “you have killed Americans”

A DEMOCRATIC CONGRESSMAN was removed from Donald Trump’s State of the Union address after he held up a ‘black people aren’t apes’ protest sign.

Texan congressman Al Green held up the sign as the president began his speech and was swiftly removed from the House chamber.

The sign was in reference to a video posted on Trump’s social media account that depicted Barack and Michelle Obama as monkeys. The video was deleted after widespread condemnation and nearly 12 hours after if was posted.

This is the second year in a row Green has been removed during the speech after being ordered out last year for shouting responses at Trump.

As he was being escorted out last night several Republican lawmakers could be seen aggressively trying to take Green’s sign and some began a ‘USA’ chant as he left.

Green wasn’t the only protest of the night. Several other Democrats could be seen leaving the chamber early including Senator Mark Warner and Congressman Bill Foster.

During a standing ovation from Republicans for a section of Trump’s speech focused on immigration, the president attacked the seated Democrats saying they “should be ashamed of themselves”.

During this Representative Rashida Tlaib, who could be seen wearing a ‘release the files’ pin, could be heard shouting “they saw the videos, Mr President,” referencing the killing of Alex Pretti by ICE agents in Minneapolis.

Representative Ilhan Omar also shouting back at Trump repeatedly saying “you should be ashamed” and “you have killed Americans”.

Both Omar and Tlaib left before Trump finished his speech.

Trump’s speech last night broke the record for the longest State of the Union address ever at one hour and 47 minutes.

He sought to paint a rosy picture of his achievements while branding Democrats as “crazy”.

He did not mention the Epstein files in his speech.

A Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll published on Sunday showed Trump’s approval rating at a lowly 39%. Only 41% approved of his handling of the economy overall, and just 32% on inflation.

He has been battered by a series of blows, most recently with the Supreme Court’s striking down of his use of coercive trade tariffs against countries all over the world.

Trump, who earlier branded the court’s justices “fools and lapdogs” over the tariff ruling, briefly shook hands with several of the justices in attendance but went on in his speech to declare their ruling “very unfortunate.”
